| Consortium Project - Continuum In Extremeis |

Reviewed by: Bjørnar Bevolden, November 2002 This is the Consortium Project's second offering and mastermind Ian Parry has once again teamed up with some excellent musicians including Stefan Lill (g) and Günter Verno (k - Vanden Plas), Patrick Rondat (g - Elegy, solo), and Thom Youngblood (g - Kamelot). The music is more or less following the style of the debut album: melodic power metal with progressive elements or power/prog if you wish. With three talented guitarists on board there is no surprise that the music is very guitar dominated. The music is filled to the core with catchy, razor sharp riffing backed up by Günter Werno's keys. Parry is, as always, doing a great job, although I do find his vibrato a bit hard to take occasionally. The rhythm section is very tight and does an irreproachable performance. As with the debut album, the songs have a somewhat dark feeling to them and needs to be heard a few times to be fully appreciated. The melody-lines are very good and I feel this is a stronger album than the debut, due to the consistent quality throughout the CD. The production by Tommy Newton is as always very good coming off crisp, clear and powerful. I know some people are having a hard time getting into the Consortium Project CDs, but for fans of Parry, Vanden Plas, Elegy and the debut album, this should be a blind purchase. Recommended!
