Reviewed by: Davide Guidone, April 2004 Kingcrow is a Rome- based Italian band and Insider is their second release. This album sees the second appearance by Mauro Gelsomini, who joined the band after their first release Something Unknown(2001), as it is he one can hear on their 2003 demo Matzmariels (where the song "Lies" initially appeared) .His voice is very expressive and fits perfectly with the sound of the band; but, perhaps, needs a little bit of study to improve technique. Speaking of the sound, I'd have to say that these Italian guys play prog metal with a lot of influences from Rush, Iron Maiden. In fact, some guitar riffs reminded me of that English heavy metal band. Moreover, I have to admit that the music has some personal moments and an obscure approach. This fact is due to the very fascinating plot that makes this work a concept album. It speaks about a friendship between two guys that will break up because of a dangerous discovery made by one of them… I suggest you buy it to learn what will be the end of the story, making this work worth the prize!
