Reviewed by: Eric Porter, July 2005 Japanese guitarist Yasu Matsushita will surely impress you with his speed and finesse on his latest instrumental CD Appassionato. A self described Neo-Classical shredder, Yasu uses classical music as his backdrop, and the guitar is the lead instrument. I am not a classical music expert, but the compositions provide plenty of melody and complex progressions for Yasu to fly across with his sweeping lead guitar work. This will appeal to a select few, mainly guitar enthusiasts, and those with an interest in rock music in a classical framework. On the downside, even though the CD barely hits 20 minutes in length, it becomes repetitive. For those looking to hear some searing guitar work in the style of Yngwie Malmsteen, this is for you.
