Progressive World - Your Ultimate Guide to Progressive Music

PROGPOWER USA 2001, JJ KELLEY'S, LANSING, IL, FEBRUARY 23 - 24, 2001

ONWARD

Onward

Onward

Onward played a very good set, as did all the bands there.
But, again, I didn't take good pics. However, with the first you get
a sense of how close fans and band were - though all through the
weekend members of one band where milling about while catching
the shows of the other bands. Uncomfortable as I was (see my
PPUSA report), I didn't muster the courage to get autographs.

Onward

Anyway, for the feature, I tried to enhance at least part of the photo of
Michael Grant - clearer a bit, but very grainy

Again we see that photography isn't my strong suit

DESTINY'S END

Destiny's End at ProgPowerUSA 2001
Well this was about all I could salvage out of the photo. Being
short and not very pushy, I had to snap my shots by holding
the camera high over my head. With a digital camera I could
see generally was I taking, but...unfortunately, to save power,
I kept the camera off when I was not using it ... and the zoom
unzoomed. Didn't figure this out till late Saturday.

SYMPHONY X

Well, I was quite disappointed that the shots of
Symphony X were so bad. These were taken before
I realized that turning the camera off, reset the zoom.
The shot from the "backstage" area was actually snapped
by Nancy, one of the bartenders, who was unfamiliar
with my camera (of course), and yet ... her
shot turned out better'n mine, even if Michael
Romeo is looking away.

ETHERIA

Etheria
Etheria at their warm up/sound check. Because I had
such a great spot Saturday to begin with I was able
to get a fairly good shot ... though too timid to get up
close and personal. Though, as the "marquee value" of the
band went up, it seems that the audience grew not only
larger in number, but taller ... And all the tall people wanted
to be up front. But these were snapped before everyone
came in to hear the band jam at their soundcheck.

READING ZERO

Reading Zero at ProgPowerUSA
Only mananged one shot of Reading Zero,
in this case vocalist/bassist Chris Roy.

JAG PANZER

Jag Panzer
Jag Panzer ... being one of the bands I
especially wanted to see, I am, of course,
pleased that at least 2 of my 3 shots worked.
In picture number 2, by the way, the "skinhead"
in the lower right corner is Jeffrey Tye - well,
the back of his head, at least.

ZERO HOUR

Zero Hour
The only shot that turned out.

WINTERKILL

Winterkill
Though not part of the official PPUSA line up Winterkill
were the local opening act, and did a really
good job. They started before very many had
arrived, but were well received.
