Review courtesy John "Bo Bo" Bollenberg, January 2000 I have had the pleasure of witnessing Quidam live several times. Of course their own compositions are well worth listening to, but the covers they integrate are the absolute highlight of every gig. First there is an excerpt out of the splendid Camel epic The Snow Goose, there's the integration of the guitar solo from Genesis' "Firth Of Fifth" in their own song "Sanctuary," whilst their version of the Deep Purple classic "Child In Time" make it all unforgettable. You have to know that Jon Lord's immortal Hammond solo is performed here on flute! This Polish band continued mastering their skills and were asked by the band Cast to perform during last year's Baja Prog festival. On Live In Mexico '99 it's as if you sit in the middle of the Mexican population, enjoying a nice selection out of the young discography of Quidam. Again we are taken on a journey featuring the glorious flute playing of newcomer Jacek Zasada and the heavenly voice of Emila Derkowska. The band has done their homework to really make a big impression there in Mexico, because in "Angels Of Mine" they integrated some local favourites such as "La Cucaracha" and "Cielti Lindo." Poland - Mexico: 1 - 0! Compared to Japanese singing, the Polish language doesn't disturb the listening pleasure one bit. I dare say more: when I received the English version of their second album I immediately went back to their original Polish version and enjoyed it even more! Live in Mexico is a beautiful live statement, recorded in crystal-clear fashion and by all means a rich addition to your collection. Muchas gracias!
