John "Bo Bo" Bollenberg's Top 10 2003:

David Cisco's Top 10 2003:

  • Rush - Rush In Rio. The liveliest, most entertaining cd I’ve heard in ages. Of course, my being a lifelong diehard Rushian made this one a lock for top pick.
  • Syrinx - Reification. I’ve never heard anything so original in my life, let alone something so engrossing and entertaining. Crème de la crème.
  • Nil - Quarante Jours Sur Le Sinai (Forty Days In The Sinai). Right up there with Reification, it’s that damned good. Very cinematic, it’s easy to get lost in the music and envision the events depicted here.
  • KBB - Four Corner's Sky. I love fusion, but probably don’t listen to it enough any more. This one blew me completely away as soon as I pushed Play, and showed me the error of my ways. I’ll be listening to more jazz-fusion and playing this one over and over again in 2004.
  • Opeth - Damnation. A great change of pace here. I do love Opeth’s death metal epics, and their willingness to stretch out the twiddly bits here make for great listening.
  • King Crimson - The Power To Believe. It’s the Crims, for chrissakes – nuff said?
  • Syzygy - The Allegory Of Light. An indie surprise that really grabbed me with its rock’n’roll energy. Kick ass!
  • Van Helsing's Curse - Oculus Infernum. A great holiday gift from the mind of Dee Snider. When I need to get away from the proggy stuff, this is one of the cd’s that I turn to for some scary fun.
  • Frameshift - Unweaving The Rainbow. A super job by Pauly and LaBrie. Plenty of prog, and a fair bit of the best AOR to hit the racks in years, not to mention the album that inspired me to go out and buy all those Queen albums I didn’t have before.
  • Neal Morse - Testimony. The courage to take a stand and the musical might to make it stick. Even if (you’re) not Christian, the entertainment value is enough to make this one worthwhile. Amazing how much music comes out of this man’s mind, isn’t it?!?
Recommended Runner-ups:
  • Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death
  • Wheel Works - The Wheel Works
