It is normal for me to drive 2000 miles in 72 hours and that includes many hours of night shooting too. All the time I am in the vehicle, (the 8-track, then cassette then) the CD player is constantly playing dramatic, powerful and progressive music. If you've ever driven across the desert on lonely old 2 lane roads (Marillion's Afraid of Sunlight comes to mind at this moment) late at night, playing stuff like "The Sky Moves Sideways" or "Wish You Were Here" at full volume, you'll have a better understanding of just how tremendous an impact this [progressive] music has always had on my work. Its inspiration is invaluable." Photographs © 1999/2000 Troy Paiva |
