CD/DVD Releases: Forgotten Suns Reveals Release Date, Cover Artwork And More

Posted on Monday, December 13 @ 00:00:00 UTC by nightowl

The Portugese Progressive Metal band Forgotten Suns has just set the release date for their upcoming EP Revelations at December 17, 2010. The band will release their album through Pathfinder Records.

Forgotten Suns hails from Portugal (Lisboa) and their path so far can be divided in two distinct directions.

From the first ever quintet there are only two remaining members ? guitar player Ricardo Falc?o and keyboard wizard Miguel Valadares. The musical chemistry between them sets the foundations of what Forgotten Suns is all about ? exquisite song writing level melted with the inner technical demands that progressive music is usually flavoured.

The first half of their biography yielded two albums ? Fiction Edge (2000) and Snooze (2004) who were early sons born out of the band's musical growth in an adverse context. Even though yet with a blatantly lack of production, those albums were highly appreciated by the media and especially in the prog community by their strong melodic approach and song writing.

Musically speaking, the main purpose of the band is to do evolutionary albums under the progressive style and full-fill a lifetime dream through music with focus on high quality live and studio performances. After the 2 first releases, the band decided to enter a new level of production both in studio, live and as performers. This new state of mind and musical direction led to their last full-length album Innergy.

Revelations is an EP that has turned out to become the home for some lighter tracks taken from the Innergy writing sessions back in the period between late 2006 and early 2007. This record is a collection of songs that were included on some live sets but never made their way towards a mixing desk for an official release with two exceptions: the in your face single "Doppelg?nger" released with Innergy (2009) now with a brand new mix and the fantastic neo-prog magical story of "Betrayed" - an extra track from the band's debut Fiction Edge (2000) now with part I and II put together after so many years.

With "Phenotype" Forgotten Suns navigate through the waters of easy listening prog-metal structures versus the symphonic power ballad and high emotional tension of "Pinpoints." The seven string acoustic darkness of "The Hill" completes the track list of Revelations with a overall dense cohesion, true balance and some of their best playing ever. The band is preparing a new full length album and meanwhile Revelations is without a doubt a must have for any Forgotten Suns follower as well as the evidence of the band's ecleticism and mastery.

The band is revealing now for the very first time the cover artwork for Revelations with the complete tracklisting:
