evening STARGerman band Winterland recently released their new album Evening Star, the first album with original singer Thorsten Fries since 1998, produced by guitarist Markus Pfeffer. Soundclips (mp3) and videos are available at www.markuspfeffer.com.

Winterland was founded as a studio-project way back in 1996 by singer Thorsten Fries and guitarist Markus Pfeffer in Kaiserslautern/Germany. The duo?s first album, Under The Flood (1996) received great reviews worldwide and resulted in the band's first full line-up adding Holger Kuntz on bass, Stephan Hugo on guitars and Chris Guckeisen on drums. After playing several gigs in Germany, the band released its second CD Blind in 1998, again getting great reviews in press and online magazines. However, the line-up fell apart in the same year and singer Thorsten had to leave the music business due to several, especially job-determined reasons.

Guitarist Markus Pfeffer and Stephan Hugo continued to keep Winterland alive with Stephan taking over lead vocals. As a duo, they wrote, recorded and released several new songs in early 1999 on www.mp3.com. In late 1999, drummer Chris came back on board and Charly Knaup handled bass-duties. Winterland ?Mark II? finally started to play many gigs and released two CDs, The Truth in 2000 and Personality in 2002. In late 2003, the band went on hiatus and Markus joined local heroes Wet Desert in early 2004, not only playing a large amount of gigs to loyal and huge audiences, but also releasing the critically acclaimed CD Kiss The Past Goodbye in 2006.

Shortly after and until summer of 2007, several bandmembers had to quit due to diverse reasons and the band split up. During this time, Markus had written tons of new songs and now faced the fact that there was no partner left to work on the new material. During all those years, Markus still stayed friends with singer Thorsten Fries. Welcome: Winterland "Mark III" (= Mark I). After meeting up with him in August 2007, Markus got to know that Thorsten had installed a homestudio in the meantime, and both of them decided to work on a new album that should become the recently released album Evening Star.
