CD/DVD Releases: Control Denied To Be Re-issued In February!

Posted on Monday, January 21 @ 05:22:44 UTC by nightowl

There are several reasons for Control Denied to be taken much more seriously than just a side-project. One of them is certainly the name of the group?s founder - Chuck Schuldiner to this day remains an icon of death metal music, leaving behind a true legacy of amazing albums and memorable songs. Control Denied was his final and most personal creation ? a natural continuation of the ideas gathered in Death's three last albums ? Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic and The Sound Of Perseverance. Although musically the group ventured away from death metal into a bit lighter style, the progressive edge remained untouched ? the band?s debut (and, as it was soon to be revealed, only) album, The Fragile Art Of Existence is still one of Schuldiner?s most fruitful efforts, showcasing mature, structured musicianship and amazing songwriting skills. And today Metal Mind Productions present re-release of this unique album by Control Denied. New digipak edition, limited to numerated 2000 copies, digitally remastered using 24-Bit process on golden disc.

This classic material from the Nuclear Blast archives will be available on 11th February 2008 in Europe and 15th April 2008 in USA (via MVD).

Bio: The idea of forming Control Denied first came to Chuck?s head in 1995, soon after the release of Death's Symbolic, which was supposed to be the last record by the death metal legend. In 1996 Chuck recorded two demos and begun gathering members to finally make his new project reality. By the time he completed the proper line-up, Death recorded yet another album, The Sound Of Perseverance ? to this day considered the band's most mature offering. What is interesting, some of the songs bear titles which were primarily meant for the first album by Control Denied. After The Sound Of Perseverance Schuldiner decided to focus entirely on his new group ? this way in 1999 The Fragile Art Of Existence finally got released, instantly receiving a handful of positive reviews.

What amazed the fans most with Chuck's new group was the music itself ? given a more traditional approach, Control Denied served the same technical guitar work present in Death's albums, but also adjoined a huge dose of melody to it ? this way the music was closer to power metal than ever. Schuldiner recorded the album with the help of his fellow musicians from Death ? Shannon Hamm (guitar) and Richard Christy (drums), with the addition of Steve DiGiorgio on bass, who replaced another Death member, Scott Clendenin. Definitely the most distinctive part of Control Denied were the vocals. This time Schuldiner decided to pass on the vocal duties and concentrate solely on his guitar. The singer who was finally chosen for the band was Tim Aymar, known from Psycho Scream and Pharaoh.

Also the lyrical side of the album evolved ? Schuldiner came up with some of his most brilliant and definitely most personal lyrics, concentrating mostly on the music industry, as well as several social issues bothering Chuck at that time. The album was released by Nuclear Blast, a label which Chuck was very fond of, as their partnership during Death's last LPs was very fruitful. Once again, the producer's seat was occupied by Jim Morris of the famous Morrisound Studios, the same man who participated in Death's success. Overall, the result was better than anyone could expect ? Control Denied developed all the progressive ideas witnessed in Death and mixed them with classic metal structures, which gave a unique combination of technique and melody. The band was well on their way to success?

Unfortunately, The Fragile Art Of Existence became the first and last offering by Control Denied, although the material for a follow-up was already prepared. Millions of metal fans worldwide held their breath when on December 13th, 2001 it was announced that Chuck Schuldiner had died of brain stem cancer. He left behind a legacy of unforgettable albums, which have forever changed the history of heavy music. Control Denied's debut release was his final monument, which truly proves that he was one of metal's most talented figures to date, but also an individual whom wasn?t afraid to follow his own paths. The Fragile Art Of Existence remains an outstanding example of prime musicianship followed by a powerful lyrical content. For many fans of Schuldiner's talent, this album is the very peak of his skills and his most complete creation. It also proves that excellent technique can easily blend with progression and melody, resulting in one of the most thrilling metal releases ever produced.
