Topic: Band News (tours, comings/goings, etc)

On/about June 14, guitarist Gavin Harper of the Scottish folk/power metal band Alestorm issued the following update: "I'm very sad to report that [Ian] Wilson [drums] has informed us last night that he is unable to continue in Alestorm due to a heavy touring schedule and a career that unfortunately leaves little room for time off.

"The parting has been on excellent terms and there is no bad blood whatsoever. I, and all of Alestorm/Napalm Records, wish Wilson the best of luck in his chosen path and we understand his decision completely.

"We have got an excellent drummer filling Wilson's big shoes and [he] has already proven himself as the perfect choice for the new Alestorm drummer. Details will be posted in the coming days after meetings have taken place with both band and record label on Monday in London.

"I hope everyone joins me in our support both Wilson and our new drummer!"

Alestorm released its debut album, Captain Morgan's Revenge, in January through Napalm Records. According to a press release, the quartet "plays Scottish 'pirate metal,' by their own definition, and musically resembles the great battle metal bands such as Korpiklaani or Turisas, albeit with a unique touch and Scottish instrumentation." And then....

... on June 20: Scottish folk/power metal band Alestorm has announced the addition of drummer Alex "Hasselhoff" Tabisz to the group's ranks. "He is from Hamburg in Germany and has already proven himself as an exellent addition to the lineup with his amazing drum skills, hilarious and brilliant guy to hang out with, native German speaker and his uncanny ability to find the only open pub in China Town in London at 1:00am!" says the group's guitarist, Gavin Harper. [And it's apparently true that the Baywatch star is "big in Germany"... -ed.]

Alestorm will be sharing their special brew at Metal Camp in Tolmin, Slovenia this Friday, July 4 and at the Masters Of Rock festival in Vizovice on July 12... and at Wacken in German on July 31.
