Across The Universe

The news today said a new planet was discovered outside our solar system. While I find that great news, I'm hardly surprised. For me, who has read quite a bit of science fiction over the years, both of the Star Trek variety and the Isaac Asimov variety, to hear that there are other planets out there doesn't surprise me in the bit.

That's not to take away anything from the discovery... more a confirmation of theory than anything, to be honest. But, one can gather that if there's one, there's more. And, the more there are, the chance that there is life on another planet grows.

What does this have to do with progressive music? Well, nothing really. Yet. But I imagine that it will crop up somewhere in someone's music. These types of events usually do. And, think of the speculation that will be fostered. Yes, it is a Jupiter-like planet, but the thought that it couldn't have formed that close to its sun, leads one to believe in a orbit that changes. The documentary film about this discovery could certainly be scored by Tangerine Dream, as they seem to do many soundtracks.

Speaking of Tangerine Dream - I had hoped to get in a review of their latest soundtrack Architecture In Motion, but, alas, that was not to be. However, we do have new reviews this week. Check out Progressive Music Review [Now The Music Box {and then by 2000-something, not} - ed.] and The Progressive Voice.

For December 13, look for reviews of New Sun, Finnforest, Improvision, Caliban, and a host of others... including a couple of Tangerine Dream releases.

I wasn't uh... keeping good track of which day, exactly these went up. Not that, in looking back, it really matters now, I suppose. But... this was some time between Nov 8 and Dec 13... (I just threw in a date to keep the sort order correct) -SS Sep 14, 2011]
