CD/DVD Releases: Marillion - This Strange Engine Deluxe Edition
Because I've been out of the loop... sorta... I just learned that this had been reissued (Nov 22, 2024) in a remixed edition. So, I'm listening to the remixed single "Man Of A Thousand Faces" and I have to say it sounds great! Granted I am listening to it via Spotify, not the disc itself (or vinyl)... and while I did invest in some new quality computer speakers a year or two ago, this caveat is that I can imagine how it would sound on the "higher end" system -- fantastic. I am hearing details that I don't recall from before (though it's probably been a good... 20 years since I last played it*). That is, with a clarity I didn't hear before. Here's my review of the original 1997 release in case you missed it: This Strange Engine....
So, that this post is more than just me thinking aloud, some details. It has been reissued by Ear Music as deluxe 4CD + Blu-Ray media book and 5LP box-set. Here's the blurb directly from Ear Music's website: "Both sets include a version of the original studio album newly mixed and mastered, a previously unreleased complete recording of the band's 1997 performance in Grand Rapids, and also accompanied by illustrated booklets containing rare photos, new artwork, memorabilia and an essay that's digging deep into the album's story. The bonus Blu-ray, which is included in the media book, contains the album in hi res, jam sessions & early versions of the album tracks, a This Strange Engine documentary, 'Live In Utrecht' bootleg concert video and promo videos from the time of the album release. A must have collectible item for all progressive rock fans and an eye-opener for music lovers in general."
Indeed!
Note: Interestingly, the news item is at Ear Music, but the item itself isn't in their shop. The 5LP set is at Amazon.com ($60.73 at the moment); the 4CD+BR Mediabook edition is there ($35.98 at the moment). In Germany, the 4CD+BR available from JPC for 39.99 Euros; 5LP edition 87.99 Euros...
*now mind, for most of those 20 years, or so, I listed to a whole lotta things, including later Marillion releases.
