Artist News: Kinetic Element September Update

Mike Vissagio of Kinetic Element writes, "I posted this on Facebook Saturday after Kinetic Element played the Prog Day Pre-show at Local 506 in Chapel Hill NC. We were unable to stay for the festival proper but we do have another gig booked at The Triple in Richmond on October 9. We will most likely be a trio for that date. Some behind the scenes stuff is going on which I will announce if it materializes but could lead to a new CD.

"'The Prog Day Pre-Show gig went very well! We performed Powered By Light in its entirety for the first time. After a mild panic when I had no sound on ANY of my keyboards in sound check I found I had plugged the wires in wrong. ("A musical genius!") Although there were far fewer people there than I hoped for, I estimate maybe 40 in the bar, our set was received very enthusiastically and the mistakes were few and minor onstage.

"'Jaymi was just phenomenal on bass; the vibe was very energetic and positive. Todd played a wonderful rendition of "Meditation" in its first public performance, which brought people out of the audience and up close to photograph him playing it. There were videos being shot and a lot of flashbulb popping. Michael was called "brilliant" on drums by a couple of people. The end section of "Reconciliation" with the organ lead even impressed me, my severest critic LOL! Old Mikey even got compliments on my singing. And the applause at the end of the last song, "See The Children," made me wonder what a roar might be sent up if we ever get on a real festival stage. Well, for today at least I think we are doing something right!

"'The manager of Jack Dupon (the other band on the show) had many superlatives for us and told us it really brought him back to the heyday of Yes. We may try to work with him to put together some kind of tour if this thing with a potential backer pans out. Jack Dupon turned out to be much better than I thought they would, although they were difficult for my ears to get used to. They are worth checking out if you like earlier King Crimson or can imagine Gentle Giant's less complicated sections with some unusual theatrics thrown in. The music was disjointed and unusual and their performance was very tight and well-rehearsed.

"'Cprog stalwart Doug Bowers of KDDB flew up from Florida to see us. Longtime Richmond friend Scott Faulkner showed up! Beloved friend and fan Debi Byrd, Prog Rock Diner DJ Deb Sears and husband Paul of The Muffins, Orion Studios impresario Mike Potter, Chris the ProgDay van driver, Fritz, Bob, all the Mahogany Frog guys, and everyone else I can't remember because, well, I guess I am getting older, it was great seeing you all and we are thankful for everyone who has befriended us these last four years.

"'VERY SPECIAL THANKS to Jaymi Millard, the Nashville Rickenbacker-meister who flew up to play with us, and gave our music new life on bass and who we dearly hope to find a way for him to join us permanently. It was a miracle that he was able to play this show with us and as a brother Cprogger I give thanks to the Father of Lights for opening the door (and holding it open, you hear me up there? LOL). The ride down and back was very relaxed, Michael brought a ton of prog on his MP3 player (I want a whole lotta Rush) and we stopped at Waffle House somewhere in the dark in the middle of the night for some health food coming home.'"
