Did you really think there wouldn't be a Rush item this update? You know my adage - what's a news update without a Rush item? (Ok, sometimes I say Dream Theater... ). Here's the news this time: Rush drummer Neil Peart's new instructional DVD, Taking Center Stage: A Lifetime Of Live Performance, will be released on October 14 via Hudson Music. A new clip from the DVD where Peart discusses and performs the song "Limelight" from the classic Rush album Moving Pictures can be seen here.

The product description: "Filmed in various locations over the course of a year, Neil Peart takes you on a behind-the-scenes look at Rush's 2010-11 'Time Machine' tour. This includes rare and exclusive footage of Neil's personal pre-tour rehearsals and backstage events at a Rush concert (including a visit to the soundcheck, and an unprecedented backstage interview as Neil warms up for the show). Neil also presents a detailed look at every single song in the tour's set list. Each song features analysis and demonstrations by Neil, which are coupled with a detailed PDF e-Book containing transcription of his parts. At the end of each song discussion, the viewer is transported onstage to a Rush concert to see the actual live performance of the song from the perspective of the drum cameras only. 6 hours, 40 minutes."

Featuring:

* Over 6 hours of footage
* Neil's personal drum rehearsals
* Setup and soundcheck footage
* Backstage interview as Neil warms up for a Rush concert
* Detailed discussion of classic Rush drum part, with slow-motion, drums-only demonstrations and e-Book with transcriptions
* Live, drum-camera performances of every song on the "Time Machine" tour
* One-hour interview, explanation, and demonstration of new Rush song "Caravan"

The trailer for the DVD can be seen here.

You can find much more at the Taking Center Stage website.

Also, speaking of DVDs and Rush, the band's website includes the following news item: Just in case you missed the big announcement, on November 8, Rush will simultaneously release Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland DVD, BluRay, CD, and Vinyl. Captured in April at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena during the renowned trio's extensive Time Machine World Tour, Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland marks the band's first live album recorded at a show in United States, and a deliberate nod of gratitude to the first city to support Rush on its radio airwaves.

The wildly popular tour features a 26-song set filled with classic hits, fan favorites, and a glimpse into Rush's forthcoming 20th studio album Clockwork Angels. As a centerpiece for the concerts, the band performed their landmark album Moving Pictures live in its entirety - a first in the band's long and illustrious career.

As such, it is releasing Moving Pictures: Live 2011 on vinyl from this concert. The BluRay/DVD formats will include the band's notorious concept tour videos; "The 'Real' History of Rush Episode No. 2 'Don't Be Rash' & "The 'Real' History of Rush Episode No. 17 '... and Rock and Roll is my name.'" The bonus material features outtakes from the short films, an alternate film version video for "Tom Sawyer", and two rare pieces of Rush live footage from the '70's vault: "Need Some Love" from Laura Secord Secondary School with original drummer John Rutsey, and "Anthem" from Passaic New Jersey.
