Artist News: Boston Lead Singer Brad Delp Dies At Age 55

Posted on Saturday, March 10 @ 05:05:28 UTC by nightowl

As reported at MSN.com, USAtoday.com and elsewhere, Brad Delp, guitarist and vocalist with 70s AOR band Boston passed away Friday. While at press time (theirs and ours) an exact cause of death was unknown, foul play was not suspected.

Boston are known for their hits "More Than A Feeling," "Don't Look Back," "Piece Of Mind" among others. Their first, self-titled album was released in 1976, followed by Don't Look Back in 1978. It would be another eight years before their third album, Third Stage, would be released (1986), spawing the hit "Amanda;" and then another eight before their fourth, Walk On (1994). And a further eight before their last album, Corporate America was released 2002. In 1997, the greatest hits compilation simply titled Greatest Hits was released.

Of the band's five albums, Delp appeared on all but one, Walk On. Remastered versions of the band's first two albums were reissued last year (the story behind them can be found at www.boston.org site in a piece written by Tom Scholz, found here; they were released by Sony last June. At present, I can find no verification of any new material, though the not exactly reliable Wikipedia suggests this is so, culling a sentence from the above referenced Scholz article; though that suggests that nothing was at the recorded stage.

Delp was to wed this summer during a break in a planned Boston tour.

While Boston might not have been exactly progressive rock, I can tell you that they have been one of my (Steph) favorite bands right from the get-go, "More Than A Feeling" being one of my favorite tracks, but truly nearly everything on those first two albums was great. I personally will be having a Boston-fest in honor of Brad Delp.
