Band Leader Hansi Talks About The Recordings And More

The album that was meant to be out on May 28, 2007 is now ready for release. After nearly 2 years of keeping himself away from sounds and using Dr Wilden?s laser treatment method and that way curing the horrible hearing loss and tinnitus situation that occurred in April 2007, band leader Hansi Cross now was able to finalize the work. First year of the treatment the tinnitus and hyperacusis (sensitivity to sounds) stopped him from even listening to music at low volume. This is how bad it was.

During the second year, as the situation continued to improve he was able to start working again. Initially in very short sequences. 30-40 minutes per session 3 times per week, always very quiet and never using head phones. As time went by he was able to increase the amount of time and in June this year he was good enough (about 75-80% restored) to dare to add the last, yet not recorded, vocal parts (which required the use of headphones).

"Initially I kept the volume down to the extent that I could not hear the music while singing - I had to kind of make a guess based on what I heard between what I sang," he says, and continues "But during this period I experienced some more improvements so that I felt sure that I could have the music a little bit louder and there was no problem with that. Even if this was far from how I used to work while recording, with pretty loud volume and no limits regarding how long I could work each session, it was heaven! I felt sooo good being able to do it again after almost two years without music. The creativity level immediately rose to a very high level. My problem at that point was to keep myself from spending too much time at the studio as I was having so damn fun!"

When this was written he considered himself as 85% restored with good chances of becoming even better.

So, what about the new album?

Hansi describes it as ?A somewhat logical continuation of Secrets and Playgrounds but with a more careful production. Also the fact that we had G?ran Johnsson as keyboardist, contributing to the composing process and the overall sound to some extent distinguishes the new album in a most positive way. To have Tomas Bodin and others as special guests here and there added some little extra to the overall picture. The use of more 70?s keyboards and guitar sounds also felt as the right thing to do this time. G?ran?s participation also resulted in a situation where we could develop some nice multi-layered harmony vocals and Tomas Hjort, and Lollo Andersson - (drummer and bass player) - of course do their thing as fine as ever.?

The Thrill Of Nothingness is to be released on November 10 and comes as a regular album and a limited 2CD version with 42 minutes extra, containing songs that didn?t quite fit in with the concept.

Hansi comments on the bonus CD with the following words, ?We wanted the album to have a certain flow and I?m also not a fan of very long albums. So, even if we like all the music on the bonus CD and had a hard time deciding which tracks should only be available in limited quantity we feel that the best artistic decision was taken by releasing it in this fashion. We are happy with the result and are looking forward to hearing from our fans when it is released.?
