News Update #3 - ''Shaming Of The True'', Farfest, Mr. Gil, OHMphrey...
Date: Saturday, April 07 @ 22:49:35 UTC
Topic: Band News (tours, comings/goings, etc)

CalProg is honored to announce the only show of the epic rock opera by the brilliantly twisted late, great Kevin Gilbert called The Shaming Of The True. This full-scale theatrical production is being directed by Mark Hornsby (Rewiring Genesis) and Nick D'Virgilio who also is featured in the starring role as Johnny Virgil. The band is comprised of musicians that all performed with Kevin at some point in his career. They are:

Stan Cotey - Guitar (Giraffe)
Dave Kerzner - Keys (Thud)
Paul Ill - Bass (Kaviar)
Brian MacLeod - Drums - (Toy Matinee, Tuesday Night Music Club, Thud, Shaming, Kaviar)
Plus Special Surprise Guests

Shaming was something that Kevin worked on off and on for years throughout his career. NDV who had been intimately involved in many aspects of the project decided to complete it for him following his untimely tragic passing, and the finished product was this brilliant piece of work. It was performed live only once in 2002 at ProgWest. It had been recorded for a live release, but due to glitches in the recording it was never released. This time it will be recorded digitally for a DVD/CD production, and there will be no "glitches"!

Shaming of the True Live
Saturday June 2, 2012 - 8:00pm
The Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier College (seats 400)
Tickets on sale now only at www.calprog.com (do not call the theater)

THE STORY: The album follows the career of a singer/musician named Johnny Virgil, which follows an arc common to many big rock and roll bands/stars. It starts out promisingly, but he is lured into the common trap of record-company exploitation and seduced by fame and drugs/alcohol. He becomes more and more burned out and withdrawn as his career becomes larger than life, feeling like he's losing touch with his humanity, until the whole thing culminates in a breakdown. He goes through a period of disillusionment and depression but eventually makes peace with himself. A number of clues (last song title, lyric "End of a long days life," reprise of train whistle in distance, etc..) may also indicate that Johnny dies penniless on the street or takes his own life. As we have previously reported, Clockwork Angels is being turned into a novel by Colorado-based sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson, who wrote on Facebook, "Most of you are aware of my long-standing friendship with (Rush drummer) Neil Peart . . . For more than twenty years, Neil and I have wanted to collaborate on something MAJOR, a way we could tie together our imaginations, and at last that's happening. I'm writing the novelization of Rush's forthcoming album, Clockwork Angels."

Anderson added that he worked with Peart to "flesh out the epic story told over the course of the music," which involves "lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life."

According to Amazon.com, ECW Press has set a September 1 release date for the Clockwork Angels novel.

Clockwork Angels will be released on May 29 in the U.S. via Roadrunner Records and in Canada through Anthem/Universal Music. The CD will be made available in Japan on May 23 via Warner Music.

Two songs from Clockwork Angels that were previously digitally released, "BU2B" and "Caravan", were reportedly re-recorded for the forthcoming CD due to a record label change in the middle of the making of the album.

The fans demanded it, and the fans finally got it. After 20 years apart, the long-awaited Triumph reunion of vocalist/guitarist Rik Emmett, bassist/keyboardist Mike Levine, and vocalist/drummer Gil Moore took place at Sweden Rock Festival, on June 7, 2008. And now, the band is putting the finishing touches on the DVD of that historic performance.

The tentatively titled Live At Sweden Rock Festival set will consist of a DVD and CD, with a release date targeted for later this spring.

"It's great to finally be able show the world Triumph's reunion show at the Sweden Rock Festival," says Mike Levine. "It certainly is one of the most memorable performances of our entire career! And they said it would never happen..."

Live At Sweden Rock Festival will be released on the TML label, distributed by UMG in Canada and ADA in the U.S. The set will be released throughout Europe on Frontiers Records.

The band's setlist for the Sweden Rock Festival performance was as follows:

But it was in the 1980s when Triumph truly became a force to be reckoned with, as a string of gold/platinum-certified albums (Progressions Of Power, Allied Forces, Never Surrender and Thunder Seven) and classic hits ("Fight The Good Fight," "Magic Power," "Lay It On The Line") solidified the group as one of rock's top concert attractions.

Triumph pushed the limits of arena rock to the max with is legendary live shows and virtuoso playing. Metal Mind Productions is proud to announce the release of the fourth studio album by Mr Gil, a project led by Mirek Gil (ex-Collage, Believe). Their new album entitled I Want You To Get Back Home is scheduled for release on June 4th in Europe and July 10th in USA (via MVD).

The beginning of Mr Gil dates back to 1998. It was then that Mirek Gil, the guitarist of the progressive group Collage, decided to present his artistic abilities on his first solo album Alone. He invited his fellow musicians to this project: Olaf Łapczyñski on vocals, Krzysztof Palczewski on keyboards, Piotr Witkowski on bass and Vlodi Tafel on drums. The most outstanding track on that album was undoubtedly the song "Beggar," which to this day is often performed during the concerts of groups led by Mirek Gil. After the success of Alone, the band chose to keep silent for the next 10 years. In 2009, the idea of reactivating the project was born. The band released Skellig in 2010, this time with Karol Wróblewski (Believe) on vocals. Also in 2010, the band released the album Light And Sound.

And now the band return with their fourth studio album entitled I Want You to Get Back Home. As the band say: "You can't plan everything. And especially you cannot control what comes out of the human soul. Because it is the need for honesty, friendship and passion that grew into the idea of Mr. Gil's new album. Friends decided to meet again in the studio to complete their story..."

And this story started with their album Light And Sound, when the band's new improved line-up crystalized: Mirek Gil (guitars), Karol Wróblewski (vocals), Konrad Wantrych (piano, keys) and Paulina Druch (cello). Their album I Want You To Get Back Home, recorded in the same line-up, brings 10 brand new tracks. "It's like coming back home, like a return to peace and warmth," says Mirek Gil. "In our new music, there is a lot of friendship and that was the main idea behind it. Is there anything more important, more beautiful than this? We have managed to learn more about each other. It is in each other that we have found that home."

More details to come soon!

OHMphrey, a jamband supergroup, which features three members of the prog rock/veteran jam band Umphrey's McGee (keyboardist Joel Cummins, guitarist Jake Cinninger and drummer Kris Myers), and OHM guitarist (former Megadeth guitarist), Chris Poland and bassist Robertino Pagliari (a.k.a. "Pag").

OHMphrey's latest effort, the unforgettable, and soon-to-be-classic, Posthaste, finds these five extraordinary artists creating instrumental music with a unified voice -- once again.

To be released April 10 via Magna Carta, Posthaste includes tracks such as "The River Runs," "Tom Bombadil" (named after a character in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings fantasy trilogy), "The Sun Also Rises," and "The Devil's In The Details" are as distinctive and enthralling as their titles might suggest. Each track has its own identity and the music never lets up. Even upon repeat listens, Posthaste continues to inspire, surprise and even shock.

Dig the joyous and playful staccato rhythms, Cummins' Wakeman-esque lead synth lines and Myers' ability to play with time during a drum solo in "Ramona's Car Wash." Rifle through your memories as you listen to the intriguing arpeggios opening "The Shoemaker's Back" (as if these riffs have been encoded with subliminal information). Free your mind (and your butt) to the totally chilled out trace/dance feel of "Reggaelic" (which fades with a glorious guitar solo).

A new Wishbone Ash reissue saw the light April 3. As the blurb at Amazon.com states: "When band has not one, not two, but three releases entitled Live Dates, it's a pretty good bet that the band in question is pretty good in concert. And in the case of Wishbone Ash, that's an understatement; various line-ups of the group have been rocking the globe with their patented brand of twin-guitar hard/progressive rock for 40 years now. Though Live Dates (1973) charted, and Live Dates III (2001) is well thought-of by their fanbase, it's Live Dates II (released in 1980 and assembled from various 1976-1980 shows) that's considered the real gem of the three; it's a much better quality live recording than its predecessor, and it ranks as probably the key document of the Wishbone Ash Mk. II line-up of guitarists Andy Powell (he of the Flying V) and Laurie Wisefield, bassist Martin Turner and drummer Steve Upton. This album never came out in the U.S.; what's more, only the first 25,000 copies released in Britain included an extra bonus LP, the contents of which we've included on this 79-minute CD (Live Dates II was only briefly available on CD before in a Japanese limited edition that came out last year and is already fetching triple figures online). A wish (sorry) come true for Ash fans and for '70s rock guitar fans, too check out "F.U.B.B." and "The Way Of The World" for some serious axe-slaying. "

InsideOut Music is proud to announce the worldwide signing of the progressive metal band Headspace.

Headspace keyboardist Adam Wakeman (also of Ozzy Osbourne, and son of Yes' Rick Wakeman) comments about the signing: "We are so pleased to be joining forces with InsideOut. We have spent a long time making sure that this album is exactly how we want it; and to have a label behind us that fully understands where the band is coming from and what we're about is incredibly important to us. It's a perfect match."

The band began as a way for Wakeman and a close circle of his musician friends to reconnect. There were no preconceptions of launching a progressive metal band, and certainly no visions of grandeur -- they just played music that they loved. "We're quite open about our influences because that's the music that we love," the band comments. "There's Rush, Yes, Genesis, a lot of bands. We even give a tip of the hat to Dream Theater in a few sections. That's all a part of what we are."

This impromptu collaboration amongst friends quickly turned into something more serious, leading to the official formation of Headspace and the completion of their debut album, I Am Anonymous, which will soon be released through InsideOut Music. In regards to I Am Anonymous, the band comments: "Indeed, with players like keyboardist Adam Wakeman, vocalist Damian Wilson (Threshold, Arjen Lucassen), bassist Lee Pomeroy (Rick Wakeman's ERE, It Bites), Headspace is destined to go in an 'unashamedly prog' direction. People may be surprised to find, however, that for a band led by a keyboardist and vocalist -- -at least on paper -- I Am Anonymous is a heavily guitar-oriented record."

Guitarist Pete Rinaldi and drummer Richard Brook round-out the band's line-up, making Headspace a progressive metal powerhouse in the music world. Look out for their debut, I Am Anonymous, coming this spring!

Headspace line-up:

Adam Wakeman - keyboards
Damian Wilson - vocals
Pete Rinaldi - guitars
Lee Pomeroy - bass
Richard Brook - drums

Adrenaline Mob travelled to Los Angeles earlier in the month to film a video for the song "Indifferent." The clip, which was directed by Scott Hansen (A Day To Remember, Unearth, Willie Nelson), was shot in the desert in California and throughout Los Angeles and should be making its debut in the next few weeks.

"Indifferent" comes off Adrenaline Mob's debut album, Omertá, which sold around 6,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 70 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released in Europe on March 19 in Europe via Century Media Records and in the U.S. on March 13 through the newly formed Elm City Music in conjunction with EMI Label Services.

The 11-song effort — which was produced by Adrenaline Mob and mixed by Jay Ruston, who has previously worked on Anthrax's Worship Music and Steel Panther's Balls Out -- includes a blistering reinterpretation of Duran Duran's classic "Come Undone" featuring guest vocals by Lzzy Hale of Halestorm.

Adrenaline Mob's first-ever headline tour made stops in various markets, including Chicago, Denver and San Francisco. Adrenaline Mob also opened for Godsmack on select dates of the Massachusetts act's headlining tour.
