Metal Mind Productions presents Gardenian and their huge dose of a solid melodic death metal.

Every true fan of melodic death metal is familiar with the famous Gothenburg scene, which is the home for such prominent names as At The Gates, In Flames and Dark Tranquility. Gardenian is yet another spawn of the Swedish metal community, but unlike many other bands from that region, they managed to stand up the fathers of the genre and deliver a huge dose of solid melodic death metal, at the same time presenting a sound of their own. Both of their albums released for Nuclear Blast − Soulburner and Sindustries − received an impressive number of positive reviews over the years, but eventually Gardenian never did get the acclaim they deserved. This double re−issue is a perfect opportunity to get to know one of the most talented groups ever to emerge on the Gothenburg scene! Released in a new digipak edition, limited to numerated 2000 copies, digitally remastered using 24-Bit process on golden disc.

This classic material from Nuclear Blast archives will be available on 25th February 2008 in Europe and 13th May 2008 in USA (via MVD).

Bio: Gardenian was formed in April 1996, when Jim Kjell (guitar/vocals) and Thim Blom (drums) joined forces to play their part in the history of heavy music. They were soon backed by Niclas Engelin (guitar) and Hakan Skoger (bass) and recorded a demo tape which caught the attention of Listenable Records. The label was so thrilled with the band, that soon they booked a studio for recording a full-length release, even though Gardenian had only five songs ready at that time. The band managed to prepare a few new tracks by December and then enter the famous Studio Fredman, where they met with producer Fredrik Nordstrom.

The material from that recording session released in May 1997. Two Feet Stand gathered some promising reviews and marked the band's presence on the Swedish scene, making it a new hope of melodic death metal. The group did not lay themselves to rest and soon recorded a Mercyful Fate cover of "A Dangerous Meeting" for a tribute album released by Listenable Records. After that they started working on a demo of their second album and were eager for some touring.

Unfortunately, both of the planned tours alongside Cannibal Corpse and Arch Enemy didn't take place. Gardenian lost confidence in their label and set out looking for a more profitable deal. In the meantime Niclas Engelin joined In Flames to support them on the Whoracle tour in 1997. This way he got in touch with Nuclear Blast and eventually managed to sign a deal with them for the release of the second Gardenian album. The group started the recording process in January 1999. Everything went on smoothly, until Jim tried to lay down the clean vocals. Unfortunately, lack of practice made it impossible for Gardenian's vocalist to deliver a satisfying performance and finish the recording. The band did not give up, however, and called up Eric Hawk (Artch), who helped out by putting together some truly impressive lines in four tracks on the album. His vocal style resembled none other than Bruce Dickinson, thus his performance on the record brought in a whole new quality in the group's music.

Another surprising guest was Sabrina Khilstrand (Ice Age, Idiots Rule). Her amazing vocals helped to improve the new material. Finally, with the addition of Tomas Fredriksson's keyboards, the album was ready to release. Soulburner hit the stores in September 1999, immediately gathering positive reviews in the press, as well as among fans. Songs such as "As A True King," "Powertool" and "Deserted" were way ahead of their time, and the video for "Small Electric Space" was often played on MTV, much to the satisfaction of melodic death metal enthusiasts worldwide. The album finally brought Gardenian the attention they deserved.

The group went soon on tour with Hypocrisy, The Kovenant, Evereve and Brimstone, along with their new bass player Kris Albertson (ex−Sarcasm), who replaced Hakan Skoger. Another tour followed soon, this time with Gardenian accompanying names such as In Flames, Dark Tranqulity, Children of Bodom and Cry Havoc.

In May 2000 Gardenian managed to book the Abyss Studio again to record their second LP for Nuclear Blast. Produced by Peter T?gtgren (Hypocrisy), the material showcased a bit more commercial side of the band, but still delivered some prime melodic death metal. Again clean vocals were used, but this time Jim Kjell managed to stand up to the task and proved that he's not worse than Hawk when it comes to powerful, melodic singing. The album, ultimately entitled Sindustries, came out in October. Reviewers pointed out several skillfully written tracks, such as "Scissorfight," "Long Snap To Zero," "Heartless" and the rather experimental "Sonic Death Monkey."

Unfortunately, not long after that release Gardenian suffered a rather severe line-up change, when Kjell and Albertson decided to leave the group. They were replaced by vocalist Apollo Papathanasio (Firewind, Meduza and Majestic) and bassist Robert Hakemo (ex-Engel). The renewed group did not last long and eventually Gardenian decided to split up, leaving behind three full-length releases and a handful of songs released on tribute albums and compilations.
