Jutta Weinhold started her journey into the world of music back in 1969 by becoming a cast-member in the musical Hair (as the character "Sheila"), which was followed by joining the Tribe in Jesus Christ Superstar.

By the late 70s she released her first heavy rock solo album Coming ? and many more followed, but it was not until 1985 that she decided to form a metal band that later would become Zed Yago. From Over Yonder in 1988 and Pilgrimage in 1989 were the two records released under the banner Zed Yago, from which the band then broke up, only to re-form with a name change to Velvet Viper. The two albums that saw the light of day under Velvet Viper were Velvet Viper in '91 and The Fourth Quest For Fantasy in 1994. Jutta did not stand still during the last two decades, but certainly didn't make much wind in the world of heavy metal, but all of that is about to change.

Someone at Steamhammer / SPV must have had a mild stroke of genius to come up with the brilliant idea to release a double disc with some of the best Zed Yago numbers including two demo tracks from 1985 and four live tracks. The rest of the discs are made up of songs from the Zed Yago and Velvet Viper days, plus a bonus video clip to the song "Black Bone Song." Given that Zed Yago was one of the most recognised female fronted metal bands along with Warlock and Chastain, the short-lived existence prevented Jutta from obtaining such status as Doro or Leather enjoyed. Also it seemed that Zed Yago was long forgotten with the younger audience, never witnessing the full force of Zed Yago and Velvet Viper. ...From the Twilight Zone is filled with good memories and shows Jutta's metal influences with the likes of Ronnie James Dio, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden. Not to forget the incredible marriage of the fictional character of Zed Yago, the daughter of "The Flying Dutchman" (by Heinrich Heine) to the music of one of the heaviest composers of his days, Richard Wagner.

I know to some of you I am just treading old water, but for the rest of you, if you like your heavy metal with great melody and a good injection of classical music and last but not least would like to experience one of the greatest female vocalists of all time, grab Zed Yago's ...From The Twilight Zone because The Flying Dutchman's daughter is back and plays live again and this is an experience no-one should miss out on.

I reserve my score based on this release only containing re-released material (disregard the 5 star rating below!) [Though as published here at PW, I just left the score blank -ed.]
