Wisdom Call was formed by Narnia vocalist Christian Liljegren in August of 1999. For those fans of Narnia, they do play a similar style - white melodic metal.

The biggest distinction between Narnia and Wisdom Call though is in the guitars. No neo-classical guitar work of Carljohan Grimmark instead WC opt for the twin guitars of Stefan Olsson and Fredrik Aberg. Other members of the band include Andreas Johansson (d - Narnia) and Andreas Olsson (b - Stormwind).

Whilst the CD has been promoted as power metal, it has more of a melodic metal feel to it. With the twin guitars, you would expect the CD to be very loud and intense but it is actually the opposite. In parts, it's quite reserved with leisurely and bland guitar work, whilst elsewhere it's extremely inventive and catchy. I don't think they can make up their mind. As an example, the first track from the album, "Power From The Sky," is an amazing piece of work worthy of the power metal title, but the rest of the CD is not like the first song. It's quite, unintentionally, deceiving. Given that, one problem with the disc is that the album does not flow well. When you play cover songs (Europe's "Wings Of Tomorrow") and previous songs from Liljegren's previous band Modest Attraction ("15 Years" and "Time" - which have a 70s flavour to them) - it doesn't bode well for the disc as a whole. Those songs should have been left for that band leaving Wisdom Call to write their own songs.

The weakest part of the disc is Christian Liljegren's vocals - he just doesn't "do" much with his voice. On the Narnia discs, especially the most recent one Desert Land, I found he pushed himself a little more, but on this he is quite detached and lax. That said, I thought he would have a bigger range, but it sounds like he doesn't. In fact, I don't think his voice suits this mix of music.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a clone of Narnia - then this will satiate some of your wishes - just not all of them.
