How could the blues possibly get any better than this? John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers and a few of his old cronies, namely Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor, gather together to celebrate the grand old man of the U.K. white boy blues on John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers and Friends Feat. Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor and Chris Barber.

Presented on both stunning CD and DVD productions, this special evening, captured beautifully for blues fans worldwide, will be a treasure to cherish and enjoy for years to come. Watching Clapton and Taylor on stage together to play some classic blues-rock riffs is sheer musical poetry and indeed a rare and special treat for all.

I would recommend purchasing both formats; they are indispensable pieces of musical history and solid proof of how important the blues has been to our culture here in America and the U.K. If it was not for all of the old African American bluesmen dating back to Robert Johnson we would not be enjoying any of this music today and Mr. Mayall aptly gives credit were it is due during the concert. Yes, we owe it all to them and so do household names like Mayall, Clapton and Taylor.

Not one of the performances skimps on time; most are long and full jam sessions. For a man his age, Mayall can still belt out a tune and he plays the harmonica, keyboards and guitar with unyielding proficiency. He looks great and as if he is having the time of his life onstage. Could there have been a better way to celebrate the 70th birthday of the father of British Blues? I think not. This is a real keeper for the ages so do not miss it.
