Areknames is a new progressive group based in Italy and this self-titled album is the first one of their career.

The band is lead by Michele Epifani through a journey to the past; in fact this release is very Seventies oriented and it feels the great influence of the classic prog bands. But what kind of prog rock bands? Mostly Van der Graaf Generator and the Canterbury movement. The singing style of Epifani is Peter Hammill-like and gives that retro taste added to a musical performance that has a huge use of "ancient " instruments like Mellotron, Hammond organ and so on.

This vintage sound isn't too simple to listen to and it needs a lot of time before getting into it, also because of the obscure sense of the concept within it. But it is very fancy. Of that there's no question! The Italian prog movement has a new entity on its roster. And this fact is owed to the wise work by the Black Widow label.
