After seven years, Extinct Instinct is published again, this time by Inside Out, as the previous edition that was made by GEP Ltd (1997 (GEPCD1019)) was going out of print.

The third album in the English band's discography reveals itself as one of the best, because of its innovative mark - very complex, but at the same time very involving.

Reputed by many as the more progressive album by Threshold, we can say definitely that there is a huge amount musical research going into this album, shown by the use of some loops, an avant-guarde sign for that time. Plus there is a wise mix of heavy metal sounds with the addition of overdubbed choirs (sometimes there are 80 voices), and some moments of old style top-class prog rock, like the guitar solo by Karl Groom on "Eat The Unicorn" (at the 6:48 minute).

Even though this work was not recorded with Glynn Morgan on vocals - Morgan left the group before the release of this album -- Extinct Instinct doesn't lose any quality, thanks to the return of Damian Wilson, able to give us a great performance.

As in every Threshold creature, there is a ballad. In this case, it's "Clear;" and we have to add the bonus track "Mansion," which had only appeared on the Japanese version before this reissue. The other bonus tracks are the edited version of "Exposed" and "Virtual Isolation."

Another five star rating in my opinion for Threshold.
