I've read a lot of reviews of The Power To Believe, reviews that cross the spectrum from delirious praise to jaded panning. With that in mind, after listening to The Power To Believe nearly every day for a month, I have to side with the delirious crowd: The Power To Believe is great!

King Crimson has a long history and a long memory, not to mention a lot of influence - Tool, anyone? - and the prodigious smarts to make it all work. The Crimsons have been making the most unique and interesting progressive rock since In The Court Of The Crimson King and have been fearless in revisiting their own catalogue to develop fresh new approaches to the royal red sound. The Power To Believe carries boldly on with those traditions, daring its listeners to try and decipher the complexities of the arrangements while deftly referring to Larks' Tongues In Aspic and Red in certain moments.

Equally daring is the array of styles on display, ranging from crunching metal grind ("Level Five") to relaxed light rock ("Eyes Wide Open") to humorous metal pop ("Happy With?."). The titular suite also runs the gamut of styles, highlighted by an unusual and engaging foray into gamelan ("The Power To Believe II"), while delivering its elegantly powerful message that faith manages, especially faith shared.

Bottom line: The Power To Believe is another superb album from a true progressive rock stalwart. If you don't agree, then maybe you need a swift kick in what you have to be happy with to get yourself straight. 5 stars!
