Psychedelic States - Florida In The 60s is the first in a series of many albums that will consist of reissued psychedelic-rock-garage tracks from unknown bands of the sixties. I am told by the folks at the label that there is enough material for three volumes for the state of Florida alone. Can you imagine what a collection you will be able to amass if all the states are included in this series? I believe that is what the plan is, and this will take several years to complete. The songs are culled from original 45s and cleaned up for reproduction. Several different resources are used by Gear Fab to initiate the process of gathering information and recordings of the groups. This set comes with gatefold sleeves, colorful pictures of the 45s, several pictures of some of the groups featured on the LPs, a nice liner note sheet with brief biographies of the bands and some comments on each song, and a notation of what city the group was from. Each LP side has seven songs, mostly two to three minutes in length. The sound quality is for the most part good; some of the songs couldn't be revived to their fullest potential, and that's to be expected.

A lot of this music serves as a precursor to progressive rock and its surprisingly hard rocking. Chances are most of the groups that you will hear on this set you would have never heard of unless you were in the area that the group was from or a young teen during that time span. All of this is irrelevant once you listen to this music. I love this stuff, and the more I hear it the more I can appreciate how much time and effort went into making all these great sounds. I look forward to the subsequent volumes tracking the history of psychedelic sixties music in the U.S.
